Anyone know is something like this site [ http://www.productchart.com/smartphones/] can be built with WP?
And if so, with which themes/plugin?
Thanks.

no, there isn't a theme currently that is free which can do this - I'm sure you can have someone create a custom one for you, though -

Thanks, I didn't say I was looking for a free one, just if there's something similar in the market already. I'd expect something of this sort to be premium.

Why are you people saying no? OF COURSE IT CAN!!!! You can extend wordpress to make just about anything. Your custom coding might be needed but yes. Thats not to say that wordpress is the best but yes it will most certainly help you get off the ground quicker.

Haha - love it how everyone jumps on board saying "Oh Hell no!".

All the heavy lifting on that site is done by javascript. The base platform has very little impact IMO. Personally.. I think wordpress would do the job just fine!

    1) Create a custom page template..
    2) Create a custom post type for storing data about the objects
    3) Periodically cache the resulting recordset using whatever means you please (eg. varnish, W3 total cache, inside another post/page.. whatever...
    4) Use javascript to do all the fun stuff client side

Forgetting about the weird chart thing they're doing before filtering, here's a much nicer looking filter thingy:

    jQuery Quicksand plugin

There's actually a nicer, more powerful one I've seen.. I can't seem to find it now..

PS. the method on that site looks sloppy IMO, would be much neater if everything was stored as JS objects, rather than dumping html everywhere...

    Cheers,
    Michael

for the record, I never said it could NOT be done in WordPress - I merely stated that there was no free solution that I was aware of and that it would have to be a custom job which the OP expected.

It's not a Wordpress site, nor Drupal, nor Joomla.

I just checked it from What WordPress Theme Is That? , a site which check if the site is powered by Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla. And if it's a Wordpress, it identify what theme is used and plugins. Very handy site, at least for me.

This is a pure custom developed page, can be done within Wordpress or anyother platform, this is a work of image mapping and javascripts that are being used to implement this stuff, it is hardcoded.

    Need any assistance, contact me.

Yes, this can be implemented using WordPress.
You will need to create some custom content types / categories to categories content and capture data in the fields on backend. Then on frontend / display side, you can implement it using some WP queries & jQuery.

Of course it can.... anyone saying otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about.

I would say that any website in existence could technically run on a wordpress back-end. The real question at that point is should it?

Too funny : If you read the whole thread so far, no-one said it can't be done in WP, but everybody asserts it can be. Put in another way: Nobody read what has been said before. This is a shit-storm in the opposite way - people don't even bother to read, they have something to say.

this happens a lot on forums - it can be very frustrating for those of us who do, in fact, read.
But in the end, it is just a forum, and it is what it is.

Anything's possible, that looks like something custom made to me, so if yo have the budget for it, look for someone who can build it for you.
