Changing One's WP's username

I've installed the following plugins to secure my WP:
- Rename WP-login
- Limit Login Attempts
- Ithemes security

However someone did manage to change my WP's username despite the fact that I'm the only one who knows the username & password to cpanel & WP. I happened to know this when I found out that I wasn't able to login to my WP. Then when I checked my cpanel, I found that that the username of my WP has been changed.

Can anyone explain how this stranger do this? This is the 2nd time such a thing happened.

    You don't mention anything about securing your own desktop. Whoever hacked that is simply grabbing the new username/password after you change them.

        I said "hacked", as in "uninvited". What sort of malware protection do you use? I'm willing to bet money that you have at least one infection, which explains how the access information is getting to the perpetrator.

    Yep sounds like you got hacked. I had that happen to my cPanel once. 1 million spam emails later hostgator informed me about it. Thankfully they knew it was a hack and didn't shut me down.
