I have not run across this before even though I should know it. I was working on building a flash file for a guy to use as the header for his site. I had it loaded on one of my sites for testing and for him to view.

The next thing I know he has it on his site but I did not give him the flash file. How did he get the actual file off my server? You can't just copy and paste it so I thought it was safe.

Any help so I can protect my files in the future would be great.

Bad news is that its VERY difficult to protect it. Every time someone comes up with a way someone else gets by it. When you showed him it seems he grabbed the swf output file. You can capture and download ANYTHING that displays in the browser. There is software that will download everything like that and store it on a drive. Worse some are also decompilers that will allow the user to remove anything he wants including watermarks you put on it. Heres one such package

SWF Decompiler, Flash Decompiler, SWF to Flex, SWF To FLA Converter, Recover FLA

All you can do if you are dealing with disreputable people is record the flash in say a screen recorder (have to be a good one not to lag) and show them that. they won't care to steal a quicktime display of it.

I used to do alot of flash training material that I sold to various companies (and some individuals) and every now and again I found my stuff on sites I had never done business with. Really annoying and some were so twisted they felt they had the right to do it.

Thanks Nontemplates, I had no idea it was so easy to steal someones work. I should have known there would be a way to steal my work if they wanted to. I'm new at this and have now learned a good leason.

It's like ebooks. They wind up on fileshare sites sooner or later.
