Chrome extension. Is this a security risk or not please?

Hope I'm asking in the right place.I'm no techie whatsoever!
I've just bought a very popular product from the JV Zoo market place. The product requires a chrome extension to work. When I go to install the extension I get the following message which makes me nervous...
"It can read and change all your data on the websites you visit
Change your settings that control websites' access to features such as cookies,
Javascript, plugins, geolocation"...
How safe is this thing? Should I be worried about logging in to my paypal or online
banking with this extension running. Am I just being overly cautious?
