How much would you pay for website maintenance?

12 replies
I am a web developer and i thought about offering website maintenance to businesses. So i did a bit of research and found the service being offered by many, but at ridiculously high prices. Some examples:

- Website Maintenance & Hosting | Gravitate -> $375 for 3 hours of work
- https://www.webstix.com/website-maintenance/ -> $62.5 for 30 minutes
- Website Maintenance Plans With a Difference - Parker Web -> $129 for 1 hour

And the list can go on..

These people really take advantage of people that have no idea what normal rates are.

Can you guys please help me with some ideas of what kind of amounts i should charge? I don't want to do it as high as the others, but i also don't want to be ignored by people who will think i lack quality because i am too cheap.

Thanks!

    Sounds like you have no idea what normal rates are either.
    I mean, you're asking us how much you should charge. How about charging normal rates?

      Joe, sounds like you haven't read my post or did not understand it.

      I know what normal rates are, those people are very expensive, i still want to charge reasonable rates but without looking too "cheap" next to the others. Does that make sense?

      Please don't reply unless you really are going to try and be useful.

      Why not simply ask your customers? Get on the phone and offer 20 people your time at $X/hour. Write down your results. Then call 20 more people and offer $(X+10)/hour. Write down your results. At some point, people will stop saying "yes", at which point, you'll have determined what a good level is.

    Just got your information here. But I think the rate for site maintenance is bit high. What do you think?

      I'm not sure which rate you are talking about. I have no rates, still trying to come up with my own. Did you read my main post entirely?

        I think the answer to that question is pretty clear.

    It's a bit hard to say because this services are offering packages and then you need to take this. Example

    Gravitat they offer "Monthly SEO & keyword update reports". For what do i need this? Not every customer want a keyword report.

    Shure you need an hourly rate which you can use, but i personaly preffer to offer my services what the customers need.

    Example Client 1:
    Wordpress Backup
    Wordpress Update
    3 hours of Coding

    Example Client 2:
    6 Hours of Coding
    Weekend Service

    Take a look what it takes you each month to do the tasks and put it down by your hourly rate, that would be the best and easyset you can do.

    im glad I got the right tools and designed my own website now it only takes 2 hours to maintain my entire website. or I would have ended up like what you said about web updates on your site.
    best of luck heads up.
