wordpress help needed

i'm a student of software engineering.
i want to build project for last year in WordPress.
think there is 3 department of Math,physics and chemistry.
i want to create a relation between these dp's.
relation mean if i post about math topic in math dp then topic should display in other remaining dp's.
and also facebook like environment that helps to student to remain in contact with each other.
anyone can help me about this i'll appreciate.

    You've chosen a very good platform on which to base your project - WordPress is extremely powerful and easy to use. In fact, the very thing that you are looking for is already built-in.

    WordPress allows you to attach categories to your posts. So, you might have a category for Math, one for physics and another for chemistry. You can actually attach all three categories to a post when it's appropriate.

    Many free WordPress themes will, by default, include links that allow visitors to read posts based on category. So, if you post something to all three - it doesn't matter what category a user is browsing, they will be able to see your post.

    As far as a Facebook like environment, you can't go wrong with BuddyPress. BuddyPress is a free WordPress plugin that add social site functionality to your WordPress site.
