How do you ensure your web application is easier to use? Have you got any usability tools?

    1. get a proper UX designer who knows about best UX principles

    2. Use your software yourself.
Sounds logical but you'd be surprised how many vendors create something and actually never use their own stuff (should be red flag!). Being your own software's user you'll find out what works good and what doesn't.

    3. KISS: Keep it simple stupid

Beside of Steve's great tips I would also highly recommend having real users to test it, because in the end they would use it and thus you would get very vital feedback. This would help you not only to make your web application more user friendly but you could get good ideas of how to develop your web application even further.

Of course if it would be meant for businesses, then you would obviously try to have some people from those specific businesses.

You can only ensure your web application is easy to use to hire the experienced web designer who knows how to use the components to make a website easy to navigate and fully featured.
Concept Feedback, Ethnio, and Clickheat are a few usability tools for website applications.

In order to understand it you should have good UX/UI specialist from the beginning. If you have a startup, your first customers/early adopters can be your test force.
Also I recommend to look at the article about app development: http://sliceart.com.ua/blog/app-deve...use-a-template
