Protect S3 download links

Anyone know a simple non-techie way to protect the download links inside a members area?

I've got a new membership site where customers can download the content, but the links on S3 could be easily shared. I'd like these links to be invisible or protected so they can't be shared.

I've found a couple methods but I'm not a techie, so wondering if anyone has a simple step-by-step solution.

I saw this wso but not sure if it's out of date:

Here is a tutorial to put a token on the download link. But not sure this is what I want. I really need a link individual to that member so they can download, but no one else can.

There's a few plugins out there, but I didn't see anything spot on. Or maybe I'm not understanding what really needs to happen.

Anyone have a suggestion?

And/or how difficult/expensive would it be to have a plugin created to do this for my site?

Thanks,

Jeff

I just found this. Do you think this will do the trick? I know I have to try it, but wondering if anyone might confirm that this is moving in the right direction?

It won't, but this will: S3Flowshield | Rapid Crush Inc. (not an affiliate link). That plugin's from Robert Plank, should be good stuff although I haven't tried it out personally.

EDIT: the plugin doesn't generate member-specific links. Amazon S3 has a feature called 'pre-signed URLs' which allow downloads of files by users not covered in the ACL within a configurable timeframe. The plugin interacts with S3 to change the links in the members area periodically. Unless the link is shared and opened within the lifetime of allowed access, it won't work.

How most Amazon S3 media link plugins work is that the link has a timed expiration and you can change the expiration time to whatever you like. The idea is that even if they share it, it's going to die soon anyways.
