I'm Having Trouble setting my username/password in a configure/define.php file...Im a newbie at this

Hi there,

So my instructions are to set my username/password in the configure/define.php files. I am using filezilla ftp client. When I click on my configure.php file and tried to edit it, it opens and I am unable to read what is there, I get all these strange symbols. Here is a copy of a few lines:

Anyone know what I can do, I'm not even sure if what I have done so far is correct. The instructions i was given seem super simple and I am usually great at following instructions so I'm feeling pretty stupid right now :confused:

Hello mlmguru. Make sure you are opening the config file with notepad (if you haven't already). If it still looks the same we can try to dig a little deeper for the problem.

  hmmm... the code looks similar to what would be displayed if you opened a pdf or similar with notepad. Is there anywhere you can post the file to get a good look at it?

I copy and pasted everything that open in notepad. I can't post links in this forum yet, but it is as betwithmarcus dot com /file , Thanks so much for taking the time to try and help me with this.

  No problem at all marcus. I did see that it uses ioncube encoding. I think the problem may be that configure.php does not need edited. Does the same code format appear when you open define.php? I think it may be the file that needs modified.

Ah ha... this is what shows up when I open define.php:

define('USERNAME', 'admin');

define('PASSWORD', 'password');

?>

Where do I put my username and password? Do I replace 'admin' and 'password' with my my own?

Ok, I tried to run it and it says "404 not found"

Here are the instructions I was given instantslideup dot com /instantlideup_quick_install_guide.pdf

Am I doing something wrong?

Ok, I have it uploaded to Bet With Marcus - Bet With Marcus That was another thing, I wasn't really sure where the files I uploaded where going, I put them in to the main directory for the website.

I tried bringing up http://www.betwithmarcus.com/installslideup/configure/ and it couldn't find the domain for some reason. When you log into your server via ftp does the file path from the root directory (public_html with cpanel) look like this:

/installslideup/

When you log in, does it look like there are directories with domain names like:

betwithmarcus.com/
otherdomain.com/

If so, then you would go into the directory betwithmarcus.com/ and upload the entire installslideup/ folder there. Then you would end up with a file path like this betwithmarcus.com/installslideup/

I know this can all be rather confusing but i'd say it's almost there.

From the instructions, I may have messed up on the second part of step 1. Where it says to upload the configure file again, I wasn't really sure what they wanted me to do there.

They just mean that after you change the username and password you'll have to upload and overwrite the base define.php file (so it will be updated with the correct info).

  Ioncube loaders are usually set up by the web host server admin. However, i do believe there are alternatives (sorry i don't have much experience with ioncube). Try a google search for "install ioncube loaders" and there should be a ton of tutorials with step-by-step instructions.

  I am having some trouble with this ioncube enabling. I did a google search and found a page that explains it pretty well, however, I am lost at the renaming the php.ini file
