Is it OK to use wordpress for commercial projects?

Hi

My questions is regarding wordpress. Wordpress is getting more and more popular because of the fact that it has a huge community of users and loads of plugins and themes available. Many people are using wordpress as a full fledged CMS rather than a blogging engine. My question here is, is it okey to use wordpress as a CMS in commercial projects? I take it is GPL lisenced. Are there any specific requirements to meet before doing this?

You are OK to use WP in a commercial manner. Quite a few Warriors are using wordpress.

Yes, you can use Wordpress for commercial projects. For example, I customize Wordpress designs for clients for a fee -- which is a commercial project.

The only thing you can't do is claim that you own the Wordpress script -- or rename the Wordpress script and call it your own

Absolutely, no reason why you can't Wordpress for... pretty much any project!

It's a great, robust platform that continues to get better.

Yes... GPL licensed allows you to do this.

Think of Redhat and how they package Linux OS and sell it as if they own it.

That's why blogs are so useful. Easy to set up and monetize/capture subscriptions either for a IM business or for an online presence for a off-line business.

absolutely it is ok, I have used wordpress for a number of commercial projects and the clients are very happy with it!

I would not worry about the fact that it is open source - most open source software can be used commerically as long as the license information and disclaimers are left intact in the code/associated docs.

    cheers
