Best way to setup an affiliate program?

Hey fellow code-nerds!

I have a social bookmarking community site that is using Elgg (an open-source CMS), but highly customized.

SocialAdr

I wrote my own PayPal integration using PHP to handle automatic subscription payments (charged monthly).

I'm hoping to setup an affilliate program, but I've never done something like this before.

What's the best approach for this, if I'm not using a commercial PayPal integration script, or any "common" internet marketing platform for that matter?

Are using an affiliate program at this time or creating a new program. Ours is a great way to get start with no start up cost.

I need to create a NEW program. I'm not sure what you mean by "ours" as the link in your sig was trying to sell an ebook.

I'm guessing I'll need a commercial PHP affiliate script, like one of these:

PhpAffiliate :: Paypal Affiliate Software Script PHP

    PHP Affiliate Script

Does anyone have experience with these type of scripts?

Ok, I'm a )#*$@ noob at the whole aff. realm... we're just expanding into that after just making a living selling our own goods ourselves.

Now that we're looking to have other people sell our things, and be able to plug-in other folks products, we had to find and setup an aff. platform.

JEM is what we ended up with (JAM being just the aff. bit as you would seem to have everything else). JROX.COM - eCommerce Innovations

Very happy with the support given pre-sale and haven't really had any issues since.

I agree withe the reply of khtm as per his reply may be PHPAFFILIATE 1.03 version is more useful and it is not too costly. Otherwise if you add a new affiliation software which have full control panel to track earnings of the affiliate will be high cost.

    Hi Kane

Since you've developed your own PayPal IPN interface have you considered using PayDotCom instead of setting p your own affiliate program? They use PayPal as well and have an IPN that is similar to the PayPal one.

The advantage of using PayDotCom (or Clickbank etc) is that they already have an army of affiliates who can sell your subscriptions for you.

    Just a thought!

Not sure if this is what you were looking for but why don't you use ClickBank or Commission Junction? They both have tens of thousands of registered users and you don't need to do anything...
