Are there any web designers/programmers out there who can help me with a problem? I built a Wordpress site for a client. He already had a standard site up and was ranked #1 for his niche/location (glass block buffalo).

He wanted a Wordpress site instead so I built him that and it fell off the rankings. You can still find his site by typing in his business name and location (american glass block buffalo). He's the #2 ranking there - but here's the problem. None of his META descriptions show up.

All it's showing is the URL. It's been over a month so I figured Google would have crawled this by now. I have the all-in-one SEO pack and the source file shows META tags. However, there's also a line in the code that reads "<meta name='robots' content='noindex, nofollow' />"

Is that what's stopping Google from loading the page title/description? I can't find where to change that in the code at all. Is there anybody out there who can help me figure this out? He's pretty upset (not necessarily at me) that he's losing hits and his descriptions aren't showing in the results.

Thank you.

Go to Settings / Privacy under WP administration. For some silly reason, WP is now configured so it defaults to "I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors." Change it to the other setting and you'll be fine. (Assuming that you don't have the SEO plugin configured for noindex.)

    HTH.

      Steve,

I think I love you. I've been trying to figure this out for a month and even the designer of the WP theme couldn't tell me this solution.

Thank you so much!! Do you have any clue how long it will take Google now to notice this change?

        Aww, shucks. You're welcome.

When will Google notice? That depends on how often they've been spidering the site. It could be days or weeks. It might help to register and verify the site under Webmaster Tools and then submit a sitemap.

Sounds good, I'll do that. Probably seems like such a silly problem/solution, but I just never even thought to look there. Seems odd for that to be the default setting.

Thanks again. I really appreciate it and I'm sure my client will too!
