A friend of mine has a problem with people stealing images from her web site and using them on theirs. Is there anyway to prevent this or, better yet, put something on the image that will show up on the image when they use it on their site.

Thanks

If they are hotlinking (meaning they pull the picture from your site) then you can always change that picture to some midget porn that will show on their site.

Then on your site change the image.

Do use use cPanel for your hosting account? If so, login. There's an option there to protect your files from hotlinking

Unless you change the way your images are presented (making your entire website Flash or another closed system) the images can always be seen and downloaded by the browser cache for offline viewing. Thus your images can be easily copied and uploaded to somewhere else. I like the idea of watermarking your images with your logo or copyright text. This is an entirely different problem from hotlinking images, when people are using the URL to your images on their website.

You may want to consider getting the image owner to contact the people who are using those images without permission, or contact their web host and their ISP to complain about illegal behavior.
