Trying to Retrieve "just" cancelled domain?

so, here is my question: just this morning, my domain has expired and i do not wish to do business with the domain host any more. i am having problems contacting them in the UK and they have not answered any of my emails.

I am trying to create a new domain and host it on either WP or Blogger.

now, here is my problem. i cant access any of my code anymore on my original blog.

Is there a way to still get this code so i can copy and paste it somewhere to retrieve it when i need it?

all i need to do is view my "now old" site and click on page source so i can copy and paste what i need from there.

174.133.66.130 This is the IP address

any suggestions?????

Dave.

Was your domain tied to your hosting? Did you buy them from the same company? You might not be able to get back in.
Otherwise, try accessing it by using the IP address that was assigned to it. Instead of the domain name.

If all you need is the HTML and styles, you can look at Google's cache of your site. (you're not going to get the server side code unless you have it saved locally, or can open a connection to the old files.)

    Type:
    Code:
    cache:mywebsitedomain.com
    into Google.

Just FYI - filezilla doesn't save anything. It just lets you move files between your computer and the server.

Have you tried contacting your hosting company?

Depending how they have it setup, you may be able to access it through the IP. Alternatively, some also have temporary names you can access, such as ftp://yourusername.yourhosts.com.

Failing either of these, I see no reason why your hosts cannot send you the contents of your website.

An expiring domain is different to an expiring hosting account.

If your website hosting company is the problem and your hosting account has expired, then what I am suggesting probably won't work as they may have deleted your account resulting in your files being deleted.

I would expect that they would keep the account alive for a period of time to allow you to renew.

Hindsight is a great thing, but if you weren't going to continue using this hosting company, why didn't you backup your files before the account expired?

Is it not worth renewing your account to get your files? That depends upon the cost and what you value your content to be worth...

The following are only possible suggestions for getting your files back and may work for some hosting accounts.

i have the ip address and it is not allowing me to do anything with it.
          Method 1:
          You could try this...
ipaddress/~username, where the username is the accounts username you used for your ftp username.

          Method 2:
If you had Cpanel access to this account, you can try
ipaddress:2082 and enter in your username and password when prompted.

Mehod 3: as previously suggested... Call them or email them and ask the question... can you get a backup or access to the old files...

TBH, i think thats your best option; there are far too many ways to setup a web hosting service and while most of the things in this thread are true, who is to know how they have theirs configured really?

The files will still be there [1] and there is no reason why they shouldnt either give you access or supply them to you....

[1] Firstly because it would have been a server thing to disable it, not from human review.... the files will remain until the next clean up.... and 2) For legal pruposes they will keep your data for a minimum of X days, maximum of Y days.... i cant vouch for the rest of the world, but its almost certainly going to be similar.
