Transferring a site from one host to another

Hi to all,

I have 2 Wordpress blogs which are being hosted on the server of a membership site to which I no longer belong.

I would like to have these blogs hosted on my regular host which is Hostgator.

How to I go about doing this transfer as my membership to the original site is no longer valid?

Help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Veronica

You are going to need to download the MySQL database for these blogs. Do you still have access to that?

Quit wasting your money! If you need a website, get me to do it right! I'll probably even do it for less! Design/Development/Software, I'm your guy! matt@snidge.com

Thank you for replying, mattalways. It is possible that I may have access to the MYSQL data base through WP. I will go searching!
      Thanks,

Depending on what version of WP, you might have an Export option under Tools. You can export the contents of the blog and then use that file to import into another.
This will not get you any of the plugins or themes though. You'll need ftp access for that.

You could still 'likely' grab the code for the themes & plugins via the editor options in the Appearance and Plug-ins sections of the respective dashboards.

Just be sure to maintain the directory and file naming conventions for the respective themes or plugins you are using...

However, if you haven't made many (or any) customizations to the themes or plugins, its best to just install them afresh on your new site.

If you ever get lazy, I'll do the work for you. Just an option, if you're considering to outsource

Before you transfer, backup everything you have. That way, you'll have something to fall on in case something goes wrong

    The only option available is
Download both the source code & database from the previous host & you can make it over in your regular host.

So contact your previous hosting provider & they should help you out to download the files & db , if you don't have access to their server :-)

You also need to coordinate the dns change so that your site doesn't have a lot of down time and so you don't have people replying on the old host and new one at the same time and lose people's comments. I can help you do the move, including the mysql/php and the dns.

    I'd be happy to help!
