Need help - PHP/Wordpress: Category/Tag Page Excerpts

I'd like my category (and tag) pages to be a dozen or so excerpts of each post in that category.

Can you please advise on code to insert into theme php (I presume into archive.php...?)?

      Hi - thanks for your reply and request for explanation:

      On my wordpress site I have a sidebar widget listing all my categories which I'm using as a sort-of navigation for the user - each category contains a number of posts.

      But when someone clicks on one of the categories, they're presented with only one post from that category, excerpted, but the user would have to click on "previous" or "next" in order to see other posts in that category.

      I'd like there to be a dozen or so posts excerpts listed instead of just one - that way the user gets a better experience because they can choose from more posts with one click of a category listing.
