I Need Help,Wasn't Sure Where To Turn!

Hey Warrriors,
I may be posting this in the wrong spot, but I didn't know where to turn!
I have a Dell Laptop-Inspiron 6400 about 3 years old, but has always performed great- at least to my standards!

Just today for some reason it had turned off and I had to reboot, and upon getting it back up and running the following has occured!

I believe I have a 13 inch monitor, but now my left to right has shrunk 1 inch on each side. Not only that , but it appears as though everything on screen has enlarged- this may be as that because of the smaller screen-things seem bigger-I don
t know.
I have went into display and tried to fix as well as just the common file -page size- to fix the problem, but no luck and the strange thing to me is that nothing like this has ever happened before and there was no apparent reason to me as to why it has just occurred.

If any of my fellow Warriors out there have any advice as for how I can get my screen back to normal,I sure would appreciate it,
Thanks in advance,
Jason

Jason, you got me curious with the question, so I think it's only fair that you share the answer. :p

By the way, my first troubleshooting idea was going to be to plug in an external monitor and see if that shows the same artifacts.

P.S. Although it's called the software forum, this probably is your best bet for asking those hardware problems too.

It sounds like your display properties got reset on you. Right click on your desktop and click properties. Check your theme and under settings your screen resolution, this will cause your screen to shrink in on the sides. Your monitor will also have a setting to shrink your screen. Do you by chance also have to video cards?
