Winzip and creating downloadable zip files

Hello everyone

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to create a zip file for others to download. I need to be able to create a hyperlink for email subscribers to click on, that takes them directly to the download prompt for them to download/extract my file. Could someone guide me through this?

Also I see that winzip is a paid application. Can we get an earlier version for free, or maybe an alternative to winzip for free? I searched all over the web but could not find a free download.

Thanks a lot

here's a great zip utility that's completely free and I've been using it for years
    7-Zip

now in order to add something to a zip archive you just right-click on the item you want zipped, scroll down to 7-zip and click "add to archive"...then you'll be prompted to name the zip file or just leave the name that's already there...leave everything else and click "ok"

then you will have to upload your zip file onto your web host into a directory
and then in order for people to be able to download your file you'll have to create a link to it like so:
    http://yourdomain.com/yourdownloaddi...ourzipfile.zip

    that's it!
