How to Redirect using Mod Rewrite and wild cards

Hello,

This should be pretty simple for someone who understand mod rewrite.

I need to redirect any visitors landing in a particular folder to a specific page.... And do it in the background. Meaning the visitor doesn't know they are being re-directed.

Example:

domain/subfolder/*.* (any page entered) redirects to domain/subfolder/landingpage

I know this can be done with wildcards and mod rewrite. Anyone know the specific code?

Hi,
So it is just a random folder that doesn't even exist, or?

If not, you might wanna give it a go, since It looks good to me. I.e if you just meant get the "code" for a specific folder.

In the htaccess-file, put this line in and then save:

Redirect /foldername http://www.yoursite.com

What this will do is then, if you go to the specific folder that you've choosed (/foldername/ - www.yoursite.com/foldername/ you will then be redirected to www.yoursite.com.

  If you have the following directories:
  
  http://www.example.com/subfolder/
  
  and
  
  http://www.example.com/subfolder/landingpage/
  
  And if you want every url like:
  
  http://www.example.com/subfolder/
  
  or
  
  http://www.example.com/subfolder/index.html
  
  or
  
  http://www.example.com/subfolder/widgets.html
  
  ...To redirect to:
  
  http://www.example.com/subfolder/landingpage/
  
  Then in the "subfolder" directory, you might create an .htaccess file with the following contents:

  # enable rewriting RewriteEngine on # Prevent redirect loops RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/subfolder/landingpage [NC] # rewrite the stuff RewriteRule .* http://www.example.com/subfolder/landingpage/

I haven't had good luck redirecting to a folder and having the
rewrite work. I always make sure it's going to a specific
HTML file, even if I have to write it on notepad and upload
create the page.

I had to do a redirect like this months ago with Hostgator -
the code I got elsewhere was wrong but HG support wrote
me this code:

RewriteRule ^subfolder/(.+) http://mydomain.com/subfolder/$1 [R,L]
The (.+) and $1 parts parse rewrites from the old to the new. They
may not help you for what you need to do so try without perhaps.
