The "friend invites a friend after opt in" system - Help needed

Hey there

I wonder if anyone can help me with something. I'm not sure,
but I think this is done by php and javascript.

I've seen this on various squeezepages, and it's
similiar to fran kern's good karma machine.

Let's say that John Doe visits my cap page,
which asks for name & mail in exchange for
bribe number 1.
After the first opt in, in the thank you page,
John is asked to invite 3-5 friends
by providing their email addresses.

In exchange he get's bribe number 2.

Then, automatically,
his friends get an email, telling them that
"John Doe" invites them to the site and receive
the first bribe.

Do you know how to do this?
I know that is possible to send John Doe's info
to the thank you page via the autoresponder (personalization).

I need help with sending an automated email to John friends,
using his name inside it.

Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks in advance!
Adam

      Ok I've did some research

Javascript can't send an email alone, it needs PHP or ASP.

Javascript can only activate a mailto command which opens the email client of the surfer.

So what is needed is a javascript which calls a PHP or ASP file.

I'm still researching this, will share the answer when I get it.

      In the meantime,
      suggestions anyone?

      Thanks again,
      - Adam

    Adam,
I would advise that you check out the Spam rules on this. If the person sends it themselves through their own email then you do not have an issue but if you were to physically send the email through your own email client then I think you are walking a very fine line. Aweber does not support this type of activity and even goes as far as saying you would be spamming if you did this.

A way round this is to issue the original person with a tracking link & then let them email their friends, should their friends then sign up from this tracking link then the original persons 'account' then gets credited with 1 referral & when original persons 'account' reaches required number of referrals then the link to the gift/bribe is unlocked/given to them

I am currently working on something like this, similar to Frank Kerns List Machine, BUT, rather than being purely tied to Aweber it can be used with any Autoresponder that has a 'list' email & also am incorporating tiered gift/bribe levels eg 3x referrals = 1st gift, another 3x referrals = 2nd gift etc

Just working on a setup script so that it makes it easy for anyone to install, rather than manually messing around with code etc

        Hey David,
        thanks for the heads up

As far as I know this doesn't violates any spam rules since
the friend only get an invitation to the site, not the mailing list.

What aweber is saying is that asking someone to make the first opt in for their friend is spam.

        Sainteve,
it's really awesome of you to develop this kind of thing.
        Best of luck with it

I looked through the Can Spam and as I understand it you can send an automatic email to these people only by using the email address of the person who entered the addresses and they have to consent to you doing this automatically.

Sainteve does say in his post you let them send out the email so still you have the user doing it.

I found a site that does exactly what you want - rewards etc and the email comes from your server

I wouldn't try to make money from my friends either.

What I meant is that I'm looking for a way to di it for free so I can
share it with fellow networkers as well.
