Best software for adult paid member site?

Hey all! First post here at Warrior. I'm a web DESIGNER, not much of a programmer, and I'm looking for some advice. I have a client, she's a model, I did a simple html website for her, now she wants to set up a paid membership site, ex. John pays $20 for full access to video and photo galleries, but I'm a bit clueless.

I have some experience with php, not alot but I can learn as I go, maybe? And for the payment software I'm thinking about using aMember.

Does anyone have any advice or better suggestions, or does it sound like I'm on the right path?

Thanks, guys!

You might consider building the site with WordPress and using a membership plugin like Wishlist: http://member.wishlistproducts.com/ . It's pretty easy to manage, no PHP skills required.

Using WordPress as a base would also allow your client to update her portfolio easily, which she will probably need to do to retain clients.

    Best of luck with it

Wordpress (wordpress.org) is the best foundation for a membership site, plus there are tons of plugins to choose from. Support is a breeze in their forum, as well as here.

btw, i am a designer myself, wordpress is not much of programming and re-programming, although having php background is nice, so you can tweak a bit....

What about the safety of WordPress powered membership sites? How safe are they from a mad hacker, as compared to a proprietary custom-made script?

It's a Payment gateway matters more than a script. Wishlist doesn't support any gateways that support adult sites.

You should find a payment processor at firstly. The best known gateways're CCbill and Epoch in this industry. As fas as know, Magic Members supports Epoch& CCbill payment gateways.

    You can check it at;

As for a CMS, a suggestion is to look into using an adult-based CMS:
    aWiz Paysite Manager
    AdultSiteCMS
    SiteDepth CMS

These are a few "budget" CMS's created for the sole purpose of running an adult paysite. ElevatedX is what a lot of big sites use, but it's too expensive to start out using. Using adult-based CMS will give you all built-in the functions that you would want or need: photo & video gallery generation, video streaming, content update scheduling, ability to control (and allow members bonus access to) multiple paysites through the admin, etc.). You can run a paysite using any CMS...or even just a simple hand-coded HTML/CSS site. However, using an adult-based CMS, you are given all the automated, built-in options you would need for running an adult paysite. Using a non-adult CMS, you will probably be stuck trying to find and integrate plug-ins and end up doing a lot of custom coding.

The most important part is billing, which will also serve as your site's shopping cart, security/login access, subscription management, billing customer service and even your affiliate program. Most payment processors don't accept adult sites, they are considered very high risk, so your options are limited. CCBill and ePoch are the industry standards (in that order) and have basically the same rates (14.5%). Neither have any monthly fees, so you can also set up both processors to use as cascade billing solution, or tie in other billing options.

Another big issue you may not be aware of is if you plan on accepting VISA payments. VISA requires an initial $750 fee, and then an additional $350 each year.

My friend from Magic Members is correct. Most membership site are happy to use either PayPal, Clickbank or Authorize.net, but not the adult industry.

As far as I'm aware Your Members is the only Membership Plugin to support Zombaio which is the only IPSP totally customized for the adult industry (and one of the most popular in that industry).

Payment gateway aside, most Wordpress Membership Plugins should work well for an adult site, after all, images are just another form of content.

However, using adult-based CMS, there will be all automated built-in options you would need ongoing adult paysite. Using the CMS is not an adult, probably to try to find and combine the extensions, and finally makes a lot of custom code.

I really have nothing to offer for advice on the site, BUT I found it hysterical that you used "John" as your example of a paying customer on an adult site.

Thanks for the smile, whether or not intentional.

The absolute BEST: (CARMA by Too Much Media) I can't post links yet so just google "too much media carma"...ask any adult industry veteran and they will concur, CARMA is the best.

Also, take a look at "Elevated X CMS". It's cheaper than CARMA and almost just as good.
