Ever installed an autoresponder script?

My first mistake was getting my hosting at godaddy.com, their servers are set up weird so most scripts you get don't work as they should.
I've tried to set up a few different autoresponder scripts on my hosting account and I couldn't get any of them to work.
I would like to know if anyone has set up an autoresponder on godaddy, which script you used, and how you did it.
I'm also wondering if some kind soul would like to help me install one on my godaddy account? Any tips and tricks for working with scripts on godaddy would be wonderful.

I know what you mean, as setting up wordpress sites on a friends account was much more involved (and time consuming) than it should've been!

Honestly though - I'd vote against installing your own autoresponder script and using a service like icontact or mailchimp.

Mailchimp has a great free account if you're just starting out, but even paying a few dollars for someone else to manage it is usually worth the time and headache savings of installing and managing your own script.

  Hey no problem - I can relate as I used to love to do all that stuff myself too.
  
  If you still want to install an autoresponder script to use yourself, take a look at phplist.com : Homepage : home which is free or I've heard good things about Email Marketing Software | Email Marketing | Campaign Software which has both a hosted version and one you can install on your own server.
  
  I don't know how different Godaddy is from the rest, but the typical procedure for most scripts that are written in PHP and require a MySql database is you need to setup the database and user first, then add the user name and password to the config file of whatever script you're using. If I remember from setting up Wordpress for a friend, it was a pain because it took forever for them to setup the database (24 hours or so) whereas most hosts that use cPanel as there control panel let you set that up instantly (or they'll do the whole script install with one click)

Godaddy does have an email marketing program you can have installed. I always read reviews first, and I've heard nothing but bad things about their program. That's why I'm looking for something different.

  I recommend iContact or Campaigner Pro. Both allow easily customizable autoresponds, and are fairly decent priced.
  
  If you don't have on planning huge volume of visitors to your site though, perhaps a custom build system would be in order.
