Unable to Get to Wordpress Admin Page After Activating Theme

Hello,

Today I registered a domain and set it as an addon domain through my hosting cpanel. I then proceeded to install the domain using wordpress. This is not the first domain i have registered on my host account, but my first with wordpress.

After doing this I was unable to get to the admin page for wordpress after successfully installing. I came to find out that the nameservers for the domain I had just bought were not pointed to my host account but rather namecheap (the domain registrars) nameservers.

I then went to my domain registrar and pointed the nameservers to my host account...and voila! I was able to login to my wordpress admin for the first time using my new domain.

After successfully logging into my wordpress site through the admin page i decided to update to wordpress 3.0. I then proceeded to upload the theme for my site, and thats when things backfired. After that the pages were unable to load and I couldnt even get back to the main admin page for wordpress. This is my first experience with wordpress using my host account so I do not know if there is something I need to install or fix to solve the problem.

I am now unable to load or access both my wordpress admin page for the new domain AND my host cpanel.

My questions are...

Is this due to the change in nameservers?

Using AND installing wordpress for the first time? And then updating to 3.0?

or

Something to do with the theme from wordpress in conjunction with my host account or a certain script?

It is very confusing because i am not even able to login to my host account which leads me to believe it could be the nameservers but then again, everything went downhill after activating the wordpress theme

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

  • Are you able to view your site (not the Wordpress or cPanel admin areas), or do you see a blank page or an error message?

  • It sounds like your domain name isn't resolving (possibly the nameservers). Maybe you should contact your web hosting company and ask if they can assist you.

Let us know how it turns out.

    There are some possibilities....

    1. Your domain is not resolving.

    2. The theme you were using broke WP

    3. Mysql server down...

Best thing to do is FTP to your website and if you can then go and delete the
    theme you activated...

Many times people get locked out of their WP-admin because they activated a plugin or theme that makes the admin area unaccessible...

That should fix it based on what you said.

You can always re-upload the theme to recreate the problem.
