Is there a decent Magento book?

Hello all,
I'm about to take control of my first Magento ecomm site from my developer and I was wondering if there was a decent Magento guide out there to help me learn the platform's back end.

There's the Magento User Guide, but it's gotten some lousy reviews so I don't know if I want to get it or not. Does anyone have any experience with a great Magento book?

Thanks,

Kevin

      Hi Kevin

I'm working on a Magento site right now for a client and I agree, the information about this complex product is very minimal.

I was eying the Magento 1.3 PHP Developer Guide that Chunks mentioned and it may be worthwhile, however it sounds like you want more of a Users Manual.

Due to its complexity for my client I will be recording a few Camtasia videos to help them out. Perhaps your developer would be kind enough to do the same?

Thank you so much for that useful contribution! Seems to be similar to your other 49 posts. Now that you've achieved the magic post count I'm sure we'll be treated to more of your spam in the near future!

Seriously, Kevin if you get stuck feel free to PM me - I'd offer you the videos but they will contain some site-specific and private client information.

Best of luck with your eCommerce site.

I would check out the alternative "commercial" offerings. I like "Magento 1.3 PHP Developer Guide" but that is very technical, depends what your looking for. There are others but the same publishers that look good. Do a search at Amazon for Magento, there's some good books to choose from.

How did you go with your Magento project? Is it off the ground yet?
Hey Chunks. Out of curiosity I got the Official guide just to check it out. It seemed to be a bit basic to me...and actually the Magento website knowledge-base has helped me out a lot. I may try the developers guide in the future.

I don't know how long Magento has been around or how popular it is, but there doesn't seem to be many developers advertising their services....in Canada anyway. Thanks for your offer to help. It's nice to meet people like you and Chunks here on WF.

        Thanks
