Error 404 - Not Found shows up on archives page,
even though there are hundreds of entries in each month.

Any help to fix is greatly appreciated.

First thing to do, always, when you encounter a 404 from WordPress on posts/pages/URLS that you KNOW are there is to rebuild the permalinks. In your Dashboard, go to Settings > Permalinks and click the Save Changes button. Your permalink table will be rebuilt.

If that doesn't fix it, you're going to need to look into your active theme a little deeper, or have someone do it for you.

What exactly do you expect at example.com/index.php/archives ? How do you get that link to click on?
That link doesn't have enough info for WP: it should also contain a year or, year and month etc.

      Thanks guys.

It's fixed now by changing the permalink setting to date.

      All the best,

Glad to see you found a fix. If it happens again in the future, or you want to be notified of error pages, I recommend a plugin that helps ALOT in this area.

After having a blog for over 4 years, I definitely found some broken links and dead pages that I needed to redirect.
