I get this error when first logging into new WP install

Hi,

My site article-alert.com shows my WP installation was successful, but when i try to log in first time I get this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: register_sidebar() in .../article-alert.com/wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php on line 13

Can anyone please give me advice on what could be the problem?

Thanks

    Hi

The only thing i can suggest is to backup your database and reinstall the wordpress platform, i also suggest that you either disable all your plugins or delete them and reinstall all fresh after you get into your admin.

Try that and see if it works.

    Hope it helps.

WordPress support ticket #165002 says that this is likely the result of some files not being uploaded to the site correctly. In my local installation, that function is in wp-includes/widgets.php - so if you're missing that file in your installation, you're probably missing others as well and should reupload anything that's missing.

There's also a suggestion that one plugin that disables widgets can cause this error - in which case, removing that plugin from wp-content/plugins/ would resolve your issue. It's less likely that's the cause of the error in your case, but worth mentioning just in case.
