Web hosting and Domain Names, HELLLLLP!!!

Hello Warrior Community

Can anyone help? I'm new to all this and I'm about to set up a blog site using 'WordPress'. I have several questions regarding Web hosting and Domain Names.

1. What's the easiest (and cheapest, if it costs) way of changing a WordPress address (.wordpress.com) to a dot com (.com)?

2. Can it be done on the WordPress site or do I need a separate Webhost and/or Domain name?

3. If I need a Webhost, what makes one Webhost's services better than another?

4. Is it possible to get Webhosting and register a Domain name for free? If not, what's the cheapest?

5. Can anyone recommend a website or blogsite offering truly independent information on this subject matter?

I've viewed a couple of tutorials, on YouTube, where WordPress files were transfered to a separate webhost.

I've also noticed a lot of search results offering to design a website for free, after you've purchased Webhosting and a Domain name, via a third party. No doubt commission based for the web designer.

Your help would be appreciated.

To answer your questions all together...

I would buy a domain at godaddy and get the cheapest hosting package at hostgator.

Use fantastico in cPanel to install wordpress.

Find a free wordpress theme that you like and install it.

I'm a big fan of Dreamhost. You can register a domain name through Dreamhost and install Wordpress in one click. Hosting runs about $9 per month, unlimited everything and with easy to find coupon codes, can get way cheaper.
I actually put a bunch of tutorial videos together over at automated-web-design.com that describes the whole process.

Yes, I'm agree with aaron_nimocks. You can buy the domain name through popular domain registrant, but I'm not recommended GoDaddy, I 'm using Internetbs.net, since the price is competitive and they give free whois at the first year.
For webhosting, hostgator is a great choice, since its very suitable to newbie. Very reasonable price and easy to use [ user friendly interface ].

I want to mention namecheap.com. Free whois, not just for the first year.

Less down-time is a big deal.
In addition, All shared hosting is very limited in how much traffic you can actually handle without getting suspended.

aaron gave you a great start.
When you have more experience Martin, consider learning to manage your own VPS's (or dedicated servers), so you can escape from shared hosting.

      Quoting one of my original questions, at the start of this thread;

"5. Can anyone recommend a website or blogsite offering truly independent information on this (web hosting) subject matter?"

If anyone is interested, I discovered this article; 'How to Choose a Web Host' on thesitewizard.com. It highlights the various points to consider when choosing a web host and seems informative, especially to a beginner like me. What does anyone else think of the advice on offer?
