Hi guys, I have a problem with setting up "pretty" permalinks on my Wordpress site.

They currently come out as /?p=123 at the end of the URL. I want to change it to - for example /dog-training-tips. In Permalink Settings there is Custom Structure option, where I can make permalink look how I want, but it's not working.

So, I've searched Google and I read that I need to make some .htaccess file, so I could use "pretty" permalinks. I cannot find this .htaccess file, where am I supposed to find it? Could somebody tell what should I do once I find it to make this work with a permalinks?

I'm noob for programing, so I will be very thankful for your help!

Thank you very much!

In the permalinks custom setting, put this:

    /%postname%/
If the settings do not take, then yes, you have to check the .htaccess file on your host. Some hosts hide these files, so you have to click a "show hidden files" button. And some hosts (like Yahoo) don't allow access to this file, so you can NOT make any changes or use Wordpress in this fashion.
