Thought programmers might understand this error 'This web page has a redirect loop' from url change

I changed the URL on one of my pages in Wordpress that makes me money and gets a lot of links, then remembered that I need to keep the URL the same to get the link juice so changed it back.

Now I get the error 'This web page has a redirect loop' , anyone have any ideas how to fix it? Removed cookies, didn't work.

If I first try and load it, it loads the wrong URL, the one I changed it to then changed it back from. Then if I hit reload it loads the old URL that I want to keep using, but neither work.

    Hi,

This should fix it for you. Permanently delete "the old link", then make a 301 redirect in .htaccess (or with the Simple 301 Redirects plugin for Wordpress) from your old url to your new one.

    Hope that helps!

You using a caching script? If so tell it to reset itself.

If you visit from the admin panel do you go to right page?

Have you "reset" your permalinks through the settings area?

You need to do as stma says: refresh your permalinks. Go to Settings > Permalinks, click the Update button.

+Thanks for the feedback guys. I did some research and got the idea to disable redirection plugins on my site and it fixed it, but now it seems I'm going to need that plugin that I disabled!

The page in question is starting to make me $200-$300 a month alone, it's a nice little spinner, so I'm paranoid about how messing with URLs will change my rankings, but I have a different URL name in mind that would target several of my main keywords at once.

So I first changed the permalink in the post editor, then I reactivated the redirection plugin and put in the old and new URL information.

By 'delete the old link first', go you mean just change the permalink as I have done or something else?

Isn't it bad for link juice for links to get redirected like this? I've read a little about this, and most, but not all people say no, but it will take while for the new URL to show in the Google results.

    Any thoughts please?
