Help with editing Revolution Church theme

I installed the Revolution Church theme from Studio Press, and I need to make a few changes. There is no support for this theme I guess, as it is a fee download. I can't figure it out, and I have tried.

Is there anyone that is familiar with this theme, or knows PHP and can tell me how to edit the page that shows the post, or could do it for me? I don't know squat about PHP, but I don't have a lot of money that I can spend.

basically I want to take out a few things from the post display, such as 'leave a comment' (I have comments turned off), and thee or four other items that show and just don't belong on a news site, even though this is supposed to be a magazine theme.

Anyway, I appreciate anyone that can help me with this.

  • Just have a look for the corresponding files. singlepost.php would be for the post, comments.php for the comments etc. Then do a search for what you want to remove like "leave a comment" and delete the corresponding code. re-upload the changed .php, replace the old one with it and check out if your site has changed the way you hoped for. If not, play around again.

That's how I learned this stuff and that way you'll remember more easily what to do next time, plus also get a feel for what the code actually does.

There is no single.php file, which is why I am having the problems. I can't figure out which file controls the post display.

If There is no single.php file, you must see the functions.php or something like that in this Editor section.

Use CTRL+F with your browser to find what you are willing to correct.

As for the PHP knowledge - you don't have to be a hardcore coder, just browse through all of the theme files and pay attention to what is where, and you'll get to know WordPress theme stuff pretty quickly

But - always use CTRL+X shortcut when removing a piece of code. Sometimes it messes up your WP site, and you either paste back the removed part of code; or upload fresh theme file (like "comments.php") into your theme directory via FTP if all hell breaks loose.

Hi Tim and all.. just joined the forum, which I must confess I found accidentally after browsing web looking for help with Rev Church Theme!

So Tim, looks like I am where you used to be.. so did you master how to edit the theme without paid support?

I must admit to becoming increasingly frustrated with everyone telling me how "easy" it is to setup wordpress sites in 5 mins, for free, etc etc. I'd say I'm fairly intelligent and have worked with html before so how come I don't seem to find this as "easy" as everyone else seems to and instead waste hours going around in circles!

I don't mind paying (have looked into using a contractor via "odesk") but I really want/need to be able to do this stuff myself, so I can adapt things as necessary in the future. Or I'd be happy to pay for some 'hand-holding' perhaps via skype and/or email so I can do it "on the fly"

So.. can anyone point me to any proven resource that they've used themselves and would recommend to a frustrated and impatient newbie?

Looks like a great forum to be involved in. Here's looking forward to tomorrow when I know precisely what I need to do next!

Tim, let me know all the pieces you want done and I will help you out.

I love that theme and use it quite often.

StudioPress does have a great support forum, but you have to buyy the theme at their site to access it.
