Re-installing WP Blog

Hi
Seeking some advice / help with getting my Wp Blog back up

My hosting company has gone down.(I do not have any access to WP or cpanel) but

I do have a copy of my Blog sql.qz (this is from the WP DB Backup plugin).

I need to try and re-install my blog on a new hosting company.

I have looked around for info and have become slightly more confused with the information provided.

I would appreciate some help regarding the steps to take such as:

Do I simply install the same version of WP then import the sql.qz or

do I have to do some reconfiguring of DBs, tables first.

Any help / advice would be appreciated and I thank you in advance.

Thanks

couple of things come to mind, I am not familiar with your backup solution, so

What does your back up solution recommend for recovering from an issue like this?

What is in your gz file?

    Hi goneill,

Is that a full database backup of your previous website? If yes, you probably import that on your new hosting account via phpmyadmin. To be safe, use the same WP version first as of your old site then upgrade WP as necessary after you are done with the installation/import.

For starters, the plugin you mention only backups core database tables (by default) which means unless you changed the settings and configuration yourself, any database info for other plugins you may have installed, will not be within the backup file.

NOTE: *.gz files can be uncompressed using WinZip.

    I would simply:
    1. install WP on your new server
    2. install any plugins you may have had installed
    3. uncompress the *.gz file
    4. import the .sql file using phpMyAdmin
Once finished with the above, check your blog to see exactly what was backed up and restored.

If you need assistance with figuring any of this out, I'd be more than happy to give you a hand. (just shoot me a pm).

    Hi
    Thanks for your feedback

    Tim,
The WP DB Plugin backs up standard files and offers additional selection for more files (I cannot recall what the additional files are?)

    JeedoAquino,
I unzipped the sql.qz and as far as I can see it seems I did do a full backup through the
WP DB Backup. I can see all my posts, comments, taxomonys, plugins and my open hooks which is part of my Thesis WP Theme. So I am keeping fingers crossed.

I am going to follow your outlined procedure and thanks for your offer of help.

Thanks again for your help, will post reults of my success or not.

    Install WP on new server.
Upload your Theme that you were using and all the plugins that you were using.

Import the database file that you have and you should be back to form.

      Hi,
Thanks VegasGreg and Guigo for your advice. I was halfway through re-installing when your comments came in, thanks all the same.
I went down JohnyData route and I am pleased to say I have been able to re-install virtually 95%, the other 5% was down to me forgetting some plugins.
So I am now back up and running and will be looking into using a twin or clone package to use in future.
I would like to thank everyone one for their advice and offers of help, much appreciated and only confirms why the WF is the only place to be. thanks again.
