Easiest way to duplicate Wordpress sites?

I'm not sure if this should be classified as a Programming or Website Desgn thread, but this seemed the most probable, so I is putting it here.

I am creating websites for some folks, and I am using Wordpress. ('cause I ain't a real webmaster, I just play one on the internet. LOL)

All of these websites will start with the same theme, the same plugins, the same content, the same categories, the same page and post hierarchies, etc. They will all start out exactly alike.

Instead of setting them up from scratch, I am thinking that the easiest way to replicate these would be to export the database into a MySQL file, and download the wp-content folder, en masse, from the prototype site.

Then, on a new site, do a wordpress install, and upload the replacement wp-content folder, then delete the database and replace it with the export. I'm thinking that if the database name, password, host and user are the same, then the site will be properly configured from the install.

Any holes in my thinking?

If so, what am they?

Thanks in advance.
Kirk

Don't do it, it may seem like a little extra work but I can assure you that if you duplicate the same structure eventually your clients will pay the price for this.

The reasoning behind this is simple, everything has a pattern, from the moment you start creating and generating a CMS like wordpress, spiders and bots begin to appear research tells us that without one hour, you can expect to see bots from search engines, if your content appear to be the same thing but in a different container, you may pay a price, for that, everything right now is about being unique and about value to the end user.

I keep my SEO spiders will trained, to come back for more content the more you train your spiders, the more tricks you can get them to do for you.

If you interested I have a PDF that takes you through the process, just PM me and I will set you up with a copy.

I understand that ... however, I am only using this as a starting point. The base content will be customized rather quickly. These folks are all coming from a hosting company with 4,000 clients whose big sales pitch is "we have 3,000 pages of content for you to pick from."

they're just starting to get the message (from me) that they need to produce relevant and fresh content on a consistent basis. However, at the price they're willing to pay, I can't afford to spend a lot of time creating the structure, which includes over a hundred menu pages. Jeez, yes over a hundred pages in the starter structure in order to cover what the industry norm covers.

Interesting, so your producing a framework in a common niche, it is definitely something to consider. I have not tried WPtwin, I suspect, though I have no proof, that backup buddy might be a better option, however I really wish that company did not have such a confabulated product pitch, it sort of nickles and dimes you to death, I hate that business model.

How much data are we talking about here? more than 20 MB, might be fun to try and upload that much data, have you tried this out yet?

just curious, about the challenges you face, will reply to PM in a bit,)

In a way, I agree with you about Backup Buddy. Their pitch page confused the heck out of me. I couldn't figure out how they worked or even what they were selling.

Yes, I am in an industry specific niche and all the "literature" has my market convinced that they must have "this" or "that" on their site. Some are getting more flexible, and I am trying to educate that there is more than one way to skin a cat (poor cat).

I'm looking at just under 50 MB, with only token content on the pages. Most of it seems to be theme and plugin related. The DB right now is at t MB of that 50.

I'm curious about it also. I'm a newbie going up against about a half dozen established firms. But, I think they're entrenched in their models, and I am offering a unique set of enhancements.

I have used this, and it really is something else. I feel a lot better knowing that I have a complete backup of the site, and I can move it over to another site in less than 40 seconds - once I have the initial wordpress site setup.
