I am continually getting "critical error" 550 invalid path...when I try to transfer my files. I have uninstalled and reinstalled filezilla, spoke with homestead (couldnt help) and turned off my firewall but still the same Error...sometimes it will say file transferred successfully, I check it, no file. This is really stalling my business any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Thanx
Tara

    hey there Tara

i did some quick googly research on this, and some other folks have had this issue and it maybe related to trailing slashes in the path and or the version of the browser (IE).

here are the posts i found related to it, maybe the information can point you in the right direction:

ftp client error: 550 invalid path, file listing can not be received | Intuit Community

some folks have tried using another ftp client, and it worked.

Hi imarketstuff, thanx for replying...I have recently read these post. May be I will try another FTP client. I am was also thinking of trying another host. I will see what other clients are available although it seems like filezilla is more ppl friendly.

I could recommend coffeecup free ftp, but ideally you want to be able to do it through your host. I use hostmonster and their unlimited ftp facility couldn't be any easier to use. It's literally a 30 second task transferring files.

Interesting, I was thinking about your host and the FTP software, I used to have issues with filezilla, I think this is still free try out cyberduck If you still have issues, find a better host, not an easy task, I have four servers that use and still have issues every once in a while, but hostgator is fairly trouble free.

Thanx! sorrellaff and Tim...I just downloaded Fireftp...its a good ftp client but I am still getting the same error...looked into hostmonster they want at least a year advanced payment for hosting, have to think about that because I have been with homestead for 7yrs.

You are getting the error because your ftp client is trying to change directories and is having issues. It's probably not a FTP client issue, but something in your hosting account.

Probably because homestead has something set up oddly. Considering their main market is website building that's not odd.

My first guess is that there is a permission problem and the folder you are trying to write to doesn't have the correct permissions. Create a new folder named something else, and see if you can upload the files into it.

My next thought is if you can't upload anything anywhere - that it's a hosting side problem. Get their support on it.

      • Contact your hosting.

The same thing happened to us.

        Its not your FTP.

Thanx! For replying guys...Funny thing, Homestead has trained the CSRS not to trouble shoot FTP... so I might get 1 person that's willing to help but really don't know what to tell me, then the others just send me out an attached email w/FTP instructions. I have been with them since they started so if I have to find another host I am moving all my business.

    Thanx again guys
