hi i know those 2 words really don't go together but i thought i'd ask anyway

i have hosting which allows 20 domains but i'm not sure how to install multiple sites on it

i wanted to hire a programmer for this but i thought maybe it's easy enough for someone skilled here to help me out for free? or in exchange for my service as a graphic designer.

Does your hosting have cpanel or any other type of control panel system?

If it does have cpanel, then there might be a button called "WHM". Its from there that you can add more domains.

Each system has its own way of doing things, so there isnt going to be an easy "You do it like this" answer unless you give the name of your hosting company, then someone on the same could offer the correct steps.

On the other part of the conversation, I have a site that is just for what your after. It allows you to post projects for programmers to bid on, and also display your profile if you are a designer. (and some other stuff too earner.net)

    @ dreamcube

basically i have 1 hosting account, and i'm trying to make my main personal site, blog/folio which will be accessed through 1 domain, using sub folders e.g. test.com/blog and test.com/folio etc.

however on this same hosting account i also want to put my other projects (affiliate sites/blogs etc) but i'm not sure how

for my blog part of the site i have successfully installed wordpress, but i have yet installed joomla on the folio, hopefully no dramas.

main problem is i'm not sure how to install a completely new website on the same hosting account. you know, with a different domain name and all.

    so this is what it's looking like on the server atm;

    [ public_html ]
    --[blog] < my wp blog
--[folio] < where i'll install joomla folio of all my creative work
--[images] < where i'll put images for the main home page
    --[affiliate site 1] <
--[affiliate site 2] < where i want to install wp sites with diff domain
--index.html <this will be the main root home page for my personal site, it'll guide the audience to go check out my blog if they are a friend or folio if they are a client

i don't have a folio that i can show you atm (that's what i'm trying to make right now lol) but here's a website which i've done 90% of the graphics and 100% of the 3D for. Landmark Products - Landmark Products | Innovative Project Solutions it's been few months since i quit so some of the ugly graphics on the front page slideshow is done by the new guy >_<

Having Cpanel will make it pretty simple. Just login to your cPanel and find the icon/link called "Add-On Domains" and click on it.

There you can add the new domains, when you're adding the domain you get to pick the folder name for each domain. The folder name you pick is technically the "public_html" folder for the new domain. You are also asked for a password to create FTP access that when logged in places you directly inside the new folder.

Cpanel then creates the link between the new domain and that folder for you. And as long as you put the files for it inside that new folder you'll be good to go. The databases for all domains are created on the same place of cPanel.

      Hope that helps.

WHM stands for Web Hosting Manager and like Jeff Hope said, it will only be present if you have a resellers account.

Resellers accounts are really useful for separating your domains. With a resellers account each of your domains gets its own cpanel.

WHM is where you would go to to add new domains. If you dont have this, then you will probably need to add a new DNS rule. Not sure, maybe your hosting company has some docs?

Yes, in Tokyo. Been here a few years now. Love it, although the daily earthquakes and radioactivity recently do give cause for alarm.....
