Advanced E-Commerce Website Design Help

Hi,

I'm looking into developing a website but need help some advice on how to go about it. The basic template for the site would be closely related to many of the stock photography websites out there right now, ex. shutterstock.com, istockphoto.com, sxc.hu

The main features being:
- Users have their own accounts
- Users can download content for a price
- Users can upload content and be compensated with a percentage deal
- Users can search for content

This is way above my knowledge of website design and was wondering what components would you need to create a site like this? ex. javascript, database work, CMS etc.. The content would most likely be documents like pdf's and not photos if that makes a difference.

Anyone have an average price range a website like this might cost if hiring a firm or whomever to create it?

Thanks,
Matt

except for the percentage deal part (which could be added via a module) Jamroom can do all of the above.

    Jamroom: The Musician Community Builder

Its base purpose is to allow the site owner to give bands their own website where they can sell music. So it could easily handle documents.

Its a great system. My favorite CMS. It is a paid for system, but you could never get _close_ to the features it has if you tried to develop it by yourself.

I'd recommend WordPress + E-commerce plugin (developed by a company right here in NZ!)

As for price, I'd personally do that for about NZD$1,000 upwards. (+hosting)
