Backing up my wordpress blog

I know there is a plugin to backup the wordpress blog.

But the problem is, I want to take the blog down and put something else in the domain. Would a plugin like that do the job or do I need to do something else? All I really care about are the posts- I would like to save those. I could copy and paste, but that would be tedious.

Thanks in advance!

*If you care about just the posts, go to Dashboard > Manage & Export all the posts. Then import over where you want it to. *

For a backup, Make a manual backup of the full directory. For this go to cPanel, and backups then generate/download a home backup. That's all!

Thanks so much! I'll probably do both of these things. But yes, I only care about the posts but I don't want them to go anywhere other than on my hard drive. I am uninstalling wordpress and installing something else - the site is no longer going to be a blog so I don't need all the content. Do you know if I an "manage and export all posts" to my hard drive?

Not sure if "export all posts" exports everything or just the posts.. you may wan to make sure and use the wp db backup plugin instead, this will also save your comments, categories, etc.

If you want to be sure you back-up everything you can go to MySQL.org and download there management program (MySQL Administrator). This tool can be set-up to run on a schedule and then you only need to check if the schedule back-up has completed. You can also save time by just backing-up the up-dates.

I use this tool to back-up my databases and I've got 11 databases I back-up regularly.

I just lost a site because I didn't back it up. I was switching hosting companies and they deleted my files when I told them I was making the change, even though my service wasn't up for another week. I will now backup all of my files.
