I have an idea for a software product but I don't know how to develop it

Hi I was a web developer for 3 years, but I already quit the programming industry for 2 years now, and I don't want to go back to coding.

Anyway, I have an idea for a software product and a membership site. However, I don't know if I should hire in oDesk or Freelancer since I had 2 bad experiences with them before already, and they really have poor support especially if you have released the full payment. I'm also not sure if I should hire locally because it might be too expensive.

Where do I get reliable coders that can develop software products and Membership sites? Any idea on their rates?

Your thoughts would really help

If you want reliable coders and high quality you have to be ready to pay. I guess you know that there are extremely cheap programmers in India, Philippines and countries like those but many times it's too risky to deal with them if you are from the US or Europe. The quality of the work usually is what you pay for. I'm not saying that those people are bad coders, there are some extremely talented programmers but on the other hand there are lots of scammers in so big need of money that they are ready to do anything to screw you over.

If you've got the money you should hire a local programmer to do the job. Hourly rate might be anything from 20$ to 50$ so if you are not ready to pay you have to try your luck with someone from India or something.

I was wondering how so many people here in the Warrior Forum are able to develop products so quickly. Many of them aren't even developers. Do you think a JV would do it at $0 cost but with shared profits?

If your idea is good I'm sure someone will have a JV with you but you have to be careful not to reveal too much or your idea will be stolen.

Yeah paying someone to do something, then expecting free support for an unlimited period of time is not such a smart idea.

Cant say from a programmers perspective that "You build it first, then I will try to sell it" is very attractive either since its the programmer who has to invest his time for free first.

You will need to come up with a real good pitch to convince the programmer that you are actually able to sell the product once its finished in order to get someone to work for you for free in the hopes that your idea will generate a profit.
