My wordpress blog got hacked, Is all lost?

I got up this mourning to find profanity on my blog and my files messed up.
I have been backing up the database but don't know how to restore or what can be restored? All the files in cpanel are now gone.

Can my post be recovered? Are they in the database?

Can anyone help me out? I will pay for the help just need to understand what can be done.

Contact your web host as well. They may be able to restore your site to before you got hacked.

If you are using wordpress as blog platform there is a plugin called WP-Secure or something like that. Its very useful in securing your site and checks all the loopholes.

Over Christmas, 2 of my blogs hacked, but I managed to recover the site, becuase they had simply replaced my sites index.php file with their own one..

I had forgotten to set the protection on my php files, and the server had a default value of 777..

        Not good..

I siply replaced my index.php file (from my pc's copy of wordpress) and the site was back up again..

But the lesson I learn't was to set the protections on the files in my /public_html folder..

This is easy to do, simply FTP into your sites /public_html/ folder and CHMOD all the files (using your FTP toold [such as FileZilla]) to 755

This fixes the problem I had straight away..

        Hope this helps

        Bruce

Contact your host ASAP - they may have a back up.

In future use the database backup plugin that e-mails you a copy of your data every day.

Back up your theme on your harddrive and everything is cool.

I agree on contacting your host. Perhaps it wasn't just your site that was hacked, but rather the host's server? I've seen it happen before... it's not as rare as you think.

Be sure your directory permissions are what they should be, change the default WP tables in the database, and google Securing Wordpress. It will give you a couple of really good tutorials and also a few plugins that will harden your installation.

In addition, as mentioned, contact your host, and have them see if there are any other vulnerabilities on your install
