****NERVOUS KNUBE NEEDS TO KNOW****

I am a died-in-the-wool Mac man. But I have several "must have" applications that only will work on a genuine PC....NOT a virtual PC emulator like Parallels of VM Fusion.

So I bought a kick-butt Quad Core PC running 64-bit Vista, with 8 Gigs of fast memory.

Now I'm freaking out cause while a few of the apps are 64-bit ready, most say they are only 32-bit compliant.

My question is: Did I jump from the frying pan into the fire?!?!?! Did I land in the really deep....um...boo-boo?? Or is the 32-bit vs 64-bit compatibility issue [for applications] much ado about nothing??

Someone...talk me down, please!!!

I haven't used it but there is a "32 bit compatibility" mode in Windows 64 bit versions. You can force Windows run particular applications in 32 bit.

    Take a look here:
Using Windows Vista Compatibility Mode :: the How-To Geek

If you choose to run them in Windows XP compatibility mode, it should do the trick.

    Hi Sagar,

Thanks for your help with this concern of mine. This is good, solid direction and information that you provided. You have my thanks.

I see you create auto-posting blogs. What's your best deal on these blogs for Warriors? I want to develop a series of SEO blogs to support the money sites I am developing. Let me know what your best deals are, and also if the blogs can be configured to continue auto-posting after 30 days.

I am also a Mac guy, but what programs do you have that won't work in Parallels or VMware? I don't use much Windows software at all (mostly I use it for compatibility testing), but I've never come across an application that won't work if it's virtualized.

I'm guessing that there's another reason those applications wouldn't run. But congratulations on the quad-core PC. Myself I only have a few C2D iMacs, never had a quad-core before (although I've used one!).

Troy, I have run across enough that won't run that it became a bigger pain than just going out and buying a Windows box to run them.

I'm not a techie, but from what I've gathered, most of the issues seem to revolve around video incompatibilities whereby the software would require certain video cards or drivers and the video card in the mac did not pass muster, and the Parrallels/VM Fusion etc, can't emulate the required video card.

This is a known issue as most of the software updates for the emulators deal with increasing the video driver base. Parrallels, for example could not run a lot of recent video games, but that changes with each update.

And yeah...the quad core smokes! It's faster that my iMac, and the monitor beats the pants off the ultra-expensive Mac monitors. But yet and still, I use the Mac 95% of the time because I CAN'T STAND WINDOWS!!!!

Yeah, I can't stand Windows either.

I'm just going to assume you're talking about some game or a 3D modeling application.

FWIW, my opinion is that VMware Fusion 2 is much better than Parallels (including version 4).

          I agree 100%.

I have used Fusion for 14 months without a single support issue. Never got close to that record with Parallels.

BTW, can you tell me how to delete duplicate posts...like the one above??
