No Follow Code For Affiliate Links

I read on the warrior forum that marketers should be putting a no follow code after their affiliate links to keep the search engines from bleeding attention away from their site. The code they suggested is as follows: rel="nofollow" The post did not mention where to locate this no follow code.

My questions is first, is this a good idea, and second where would I put the code. I put two examples below. I assume it is the second choice.

<a href="http://www.affiliatesite.com/product/site/product name/?aid=101010" target="_blank"> rel="nofollow" Learn More About Product</a>

<a href="http://www.affiliatesite.com/product/site/product name/?aid=101010" target="_blank">Learn More About Product</a> rel="nofollow"

Thanks Glenn

At the moment it seems that only Google obeys the nofollow tags, as both Y! and MSN seem to ignore it..

Putting a nofollow tag into a link tells G! not to count this link as a backlink for the destination site.

G! will still read the site and then go onto the destination site.

So please don't use nofollow tags in an attempt to protect important information from search engines, like members names and emails etc..

G! and all the other will still go through to the destination url..

    Yake care

    Thanks Rob and Bruce.

I am not sure if it is worth the trouble since I would have to change about 25 pages that each have 2 or three affiliate links on them. If only google pays attention, it may be best to leave them alone.

I wanted to make new thread, but found this post, so I`m asking the same question again, that was answered 4 years ago, but might be not valid today.

I am building new site about payday loans. Its not in the US or UK, so the competition is high but not unbeatable.

Should I add no follow to affilate links? I have a pricing table in the first page and it has 5 affilate links in it. I am little bit worried wether I do not give them too much of my PR power.
Not sure, wether I am allowed to put my url here, so I won't.
