Inside a membership site, please help!

Hello, folks.

I am starting to build a membership site, the main thing in it will be a forum (still haven't decided between phpBB and vBulletin) however I would like to add more features; such as BLOG for members (each member will have their own blog within the site)...

Can this kind of thing be easily integrated with some site builder (like Joomla) or does it necessarily require a custom set-up, hence hiring a knowledgeable programmer...

    Hi Alex,

    You should be able to create your site with the features you mentioned using Joomla as there are a large number of plugins you can add that will give you the various features you want to provide to your members.

    Most of the plugins I've ever looked at integrate quite well with each other so you don't have things like your members have logged into your site but when they go to use the forum they have to login again as the forum software doesn't know anything about the user already being logged in.

    If you choose to go that route that's the main issue you'd need to tackle first.

    Hi Alex

    I've built similar sites to what you described with Joomla 1.0, have yet to build one with 1.5 but it should be a similar task. You may want to look into AEC for managing subscription payments along with Community Builder and JACL.

    Fireboard is a great Joomla forum product, you may also want to check that out.

    Wordpress MU would work great for this application... I'm pretty sure aMember can be used with MU (Multi-User).
