Coding To Add Date/Time To Phone Calendar?

I design mobile sites and had this question asked of me.... I said I'd research it.

Is there a way to link a date/time on a mobile page to the phone viewers calendar? Let's say there's an invitation, and the viewer wants to automatically import those into their calendar by clicking on the date/time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi Ronnie - haven't tested this but would be a cool concept to implement... perhaps try linking to an .ics file...

    I will give it a go when i get chance tomorrow - not sure how compatible its going to be our if it will even work, just more of a wild guess!

    UPDATE - Ran a quick test .ics appears to work using an iphone IOS5 - link to an ics file prompts you to open fine in icalendar

    Android doesn't prompt anything..

    I will need to research more before coming up with a sure answer - but hopefully something universal will come up

    With regards to adding it to google web calendar but not your actual phone calendar...

    Perhaps you can use an image to identify each type of calendar link

    As mentioned before tricky one this but can certainly see it needs to be made more universal and easy to implement - using ical or vcal files would seem the logical way to go or a simple <eventdate> tag
