Google Is Not Indexing My Pages!

I checked my site today with google for the heck of it, and was surprised with what I found. I typed in site:mysite.com/blog and found that out, of the 10 posts I had put on my blog over the last eight weeks google was only listing three of them. But posts I put up last week are indexed.

My site is an html site with a wordpress blog attached. I have the sitemap plugin on the blog and it is working. I went into my cpanel and looked at the sitemap.xml file. It has all the posts listed.

My main site has a link to the blog, and all the pages on the main site are well linked together.

When I found this problem I decided to check my other site which is a wordpress blog, and found two of my pages that have been up for several weeks are not indexed, but pages that were just put up a week ago are indexed. That site also has a good site map.

Does anyone know what would cause this, and what I do now to get google to index these pages and posts.

Thanks Glenn

Don't stress Glenn, this is allpart of the game with Google plays with us.
I have a blog that had (at one stage) 100+ pages indexed in it, and then one day, Big G was saying I had none indexed!

A week or so, the pages where all back plus some.
Other sites I've got, have taken ages to index, then then once Big G find your site it starts devouring it like there is no tomorrow!

Also check your logs, you may find that most of your pages have been spidered, but yet to appear in the SERPs. If the GoogleBat is not hitting your site (like a dozen times a day), then get link building. The more incoming links, the more times G spideres your site.

So keep on doing the right thing, and G will eventually show your pages when it feels liks it.. There's not much else you can do about it..

Just don't quit, keep on posting

      Hope this helps

umm.. think that was already mentioned in the post.

Bruce gave some good advice. It can be frustrating when your pages go in and out, many of mine move around all the time.

What about link backs? Do you have them? Could help get your pages indexed as well.

    Hello Glenn,
Backlinks is the golden key for Google indexing.
By the way: why you are not using a link to your site in your signature ???
You have till now 136 posts , it can be 136 backlinks to your site, but your signature is empty, and I modestly think that putting your web address in your post signatures can make some difference on Google Indexing as Warrior Forum is a very reputable and constantly spidered web.

Actually, unless I heard wrong, it would only count as 1 back link... not one for every post.

      yes, you do need backlinks.

Here's how to get backlinks quickly:

      • find other blogs which have topics relating to yours and comment on them. A proper well-thought comment, not just a one-liner, because otherwise it will be deemed as comment spam.
      • Write some articles and submit them to article directories with a link back to your site in the article resource box.
      • write a report and make sure a link to your site is embedded in it and give it away for free. Trust me, I know, giving away free stuff does wonders for your traffic, and gets you backlinks!
      Good luck!

It is possible that Google periodically changes its algorithms or something. I don't know.

But another thing you can do is ... if you can have your blog listed in a lot of frequently visited webpage, then that would also increase your rank in Google.

First thing to do is ensure you have a Google webmaster account (Yes I know this has been mentioned with regards to sitemaps) but I believe one of the most useful things about Google Webmaster tools is its ability to inform you about errors and other issues it encounters, like 404's and the like.

Also, make sure that over and above worrying about External links pointing to your sites, make sure your internal pages link properly to each other and to themselves.

Occasionally, if you make adjustments to menu items or pages names, Google will appear to drop you from the index while it re works your new structure into the index. Remember, the spiders crawl your site and then a whole other set of computers process the data over time in the background to make a final judgment on what to do with your site in the index.

lastly, make sure your ping your blogs (even if you use wordpress, which does it automatically) using Pingomatic or Pingoat and make sure your Bookmark each new post at at least 5 social bookmarking sites.

      Gotta love the SEO game!
      Cheers
      Nick

How often do you post on your blog? I understand the sweet spot is 2x per week for google.

I may be wrong but that's what I'm shooting for.

Most of my blogs are about debt. A few a week i suppose. Apparrently with google less than 10 keywords are required also.
Im sure they keep changing the goalposts every time i get close to maximum rankings.

    Hello Glenn!
Don't worry! Checking your pages one more time to make sure that your links in your signature are available or not? Backlinks is the most important in indexing volume of traffic on google.
    Best wishes for you!

Google analytics and a sitemap.xml are crucial. After Google has a valid sitemap it's only a matter of time.

1-2 weeks? I can generally get a site (and especially a blog) indexed in 24-48 hours by submitting a sitemap. Of course, keeping it indexed and ranking well are a totally different story, that requires backlinks (and a little on-site SEO never hurts either).

You must check that you have not added no index code in your index page or you should do SEO/SMO regularly & promotions to keep your index daily.

    Another Important Info is this....

I had almost the same issue but later found out that my blog sitemap does not automatically rebuild itself for maybe after changing something on my post thus I had to manually go to rebuild it. So, check your blog google sitemap generator if it's automatically rebuilding.

    hope this helps....

The reason may be you would have banned by google. You have to check your sitemap as well as have to make sure that your content is fine and try to get some backlinks from your site theme related sites. Better to avoid getting links from spammy sites.

One of my sites disappeared off Google this week, if a site on shared hosting on the same server/IP gets banned from Google would your own site also get banned?
