    What's the problem?

I think I've installed VB 6 on Win 7 without any problem.

Have you tried installing it as an administrator, with full rights ?

Why would you want to install vb6? Surely vs2008 or vs2010 would now be the option of choice? if you have an old vb6 project use the project upgrade wizard!?

You can install VB 6 into Windows 7 as normal installation process like windows xp. You can directly install it by setup.exe.

Have you installed and tested VB6 on Windows 7 yourself? Which version of the Win 7 OS are you running? 32 or 64 bit? Home Premium or Pro? Have you successfully compiled programs with VB6 on Win7?

I haven't tried to install VB6 on Win 7 yet, but I thought you needed to run Windows 7 Pro so that you could use the XP Virtual Machine. Are you saying that it will install and run on Windows 7 without using the XP virtual machine?

Also, if you intend to use VB for database access, you'll probably want to use ADO rather than DAO. I've read that DAO is no longer installed by default on Windows 7.

Brandon is correct. Some people continue to prefer VB6 for a variety of reasons. I'm currently porting an application with over 100,000 lines of code from VB6 to VB.net 2010, and it's a laborious task. The upgrade utility only works for small, simple projects. Any project that uses GDI, DAO, API function calls, and control arrays will require at least a partial rewrite. You also have to consider compatibility issues with some legacy ActiveX controls. VB.net is really cool, but it's quite a change from VB6. It really shouldn't even be considered the same language. It's a whole new ball game.

Some people still prefer to use VB6 so that they can build apps that don't require the .NET framework to be installed on the end users computer. Of course, that's becoming less and less of an issue each year, but I think that is (or at least was) one of the primary reasons why a lot of developers still use VB6.

VB 6.0 enterprise edition is the good one by Microsoft, it got a RAD (rapid application development) tool for building fast projexts and applications (exe) by less time consumption.

There is a ton of VB6 legacy code out there. If software works, is it worth the man-hours to convert a 100,000 line program to .NET?

You're correct - if it works, it may not be not worth the effort. If it doesn't, the pros and cons of upgrading have to be considered. And in the case of my project, the client needed several enhancements to the program.

I could have incorporated the changes into the VB6 app, but we chose to upgrade to ensure the continued operation of the program well into the future. We decided that it wasn't wise to continue to invest money to enhance an application using a language that is no longer supported by Microsoft. There's no guarantee that support will continue for programs created using VB6 in future OS releases. There are already questions about compatibility with Win7.

That might work. But I've found most of the time compatability mode doesn't work

Just make sure that Visual Basic 6 has the latest Service Pack.
You could run it inside a XP Virtual Machine. There would be less application incompatibilities that way.
