off topic: Can you help me format my pc?

Sorry for the off topic but I need help. I put my recovery cd in my drive, restart my computer, go into boot menu, select start from c.d. and hit enter, and then it just starts up as normal. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help.

When you select your CD drive in the boot menu, make it the only boot device. So if there is no bootable CD then the computer will not load. If it still doesn't work, your CD might be damaged.

jlzandrad- It is a gateway laptop with windows xp.

Elad nava- I don't quite get what you are saying. I select the boot from cd option, I press enter and then it starts as normal. How do I make it the only boot device?
