404 error on my sitemap.xml page

Hey everyone,

I hope I am in the right area.

I have installed a sitemap plugin on my wordpress site (Google XML Sitemaps plugin- successfully activated) and went to Google Webmaster Tools to add my site.

After a lot of mucking around to get it verified, I thought I was home and hosed, only to find that there is no data available.

I got this message:
"We encountered an error while trying to access your Sitemap. Please ensure your Sitemap follows our guidelines and can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit."

Can anyone help me out - Please
BTW, if I don't answer, I'm asleep - it's late here(Aussie)

Thanks

I'm not sure if this plugin is the same as mine, but mine won't generate the .xml file unless you go into the settings and generate it manually, or it will autogenerate if you put a new post on the site.

Correct. You must manually create the first xml, or wait until you post new content. Always go directly to the xml before submitting it to see what you want excluded.

    Thank you guys.
Much appreciated. I'll see how I go.

Ok, that worked, I have a sitemap - thanks - so simple when you know how.

Google Webmaster Tools is still saying there is no data available and there is big red cross next to my status. I'll wait to see if it takes a while to get going perhaps.

If problem continues, post a link to your XML sitemap
