    Just a heads up.

You will want to run that on a vps or dedicated server if you are going to use an installed chat script.

Most hosts will end up shutting down a site running a chat script.

So be sure to read closely on how server intensive the script is before installing.

Not necessarily true. I've had chat scripts running on several different hosts & never run into a problem. Having said that it's always wise to check with the host.

A lot of chat scripts are written to integrate to specific platforms they're running on (such as forums -to link in with username password etc) so that limits what's good for your application.

I suggest you have a look at demos of those that fit, choose a few that meet your budget & look good & then just try them. They can be quite light on resources or they can use a lot, they can be easy to set up or they can be tricky. Give it a go.

Don't forget that cPanel implementations usually have a couple of chat scripts available.

Same here, I have had a chat script running using a free shared web hosting account at X10hosting, provided it does not get to busy and trip the resource limits on the SQL server they do not mind.

As Nigel said it's always a good idea to check with the host beforehand. One thing to watch out for are the exact details of the hosts SQL useage policy. There will be limits for the number of simultaneous queries (and total sql queries per hour for some) whilst an individual sql query only takes a fraction of a second however as the number of people logged in watching a room(s) increases you can find the chat room database gets suspended temporarly by the host shutting down all chat.

You can choose to add a free 3rd party chat.
It remove the hassle involve with maintaining a chat and the chats has much more features and abilities (especially mobile orientation) .
Check Rumbletalk, it is a very useful choice.
