mailchimp is not easy to use, a free one quite easy to use is List Wire - The world's best FREE Autoresponder! , the most used is aweber and if you want one installed on your own website you should use Follow Up Autoresponder Software for EMail Marketing - AutoResponse Plus that is also quite easy to use and with no recurring fees

I saw ListWire too, and I quickly signed up. However, since it was free, I wanted to see what the catch was. I created a test autoresponder, a test message, and added myself (with one of my other email addresses) to it. I got the confirmation email, clicked the confirmation link, and was immediately brought to an offer page. What? I then clicked "No Thanks", and was brought to ANOTHER offer page. This one was basically a sales page. I had to hunt through the page to find the "No Thanks" button wedged in between some text. I clicked that, and was redirected to the List Wire website. No confirmation message. Soon enough, I got the message I wrote in my inbox. There was a big box advertising List Wire at the bottom of the email.

I'm not using this service - the offers most likely hurt conversions. If they don't, then hell, why not use it. But, I don't want to take that risk.

But is is worth the money you would save by not paying for Aweber or GetResponse (or iContact, etc.)?

    Thanks nordend,
I will have to review these two and see which one is best. I notice that a few on here use Aweber know much about it?

Thanks, I was wondering the same thing about these free ones I do not want to advertise for someone else. I do not paying, I just want an easy one to use.

I have decided to never use free autoresponders. They will never be completely free without some sort of drawback. The drawback is usually in the form of advertising you do not want.

Say you are promoting a Clickbank product on which you make 20 dollars commission per sale. You will only have to make one sale per month on your list if you want to profit for the lowest costing Getresponse or Aweber plan (below 500 subscribers). And, say only 1% of your subscribers buy the affiliate product (which I bet you can do much better). You only need 100 subscribers to do this. And, this is considering that you only promote one affiliate product per month. Say you promote 7 products per month (with 100 subscribers and a 1% sale rate - not sure what the correct term is for making an affiliate sale in this context). If only 1 out of your 100 subscribers buy the product every time, and the products cost an average of 20 dollars (which again, I'm sure you can find a product on which your commission will be higher), you will make 140 dollars.

My point is that the cost of the autoresponder is highly irrelevant... IF you provide good content to your list. The advertising on the free autoresponders could greatly reduce your opt-in rate, as well as increase your subscribe rate, so in my opinion, a paid autoresponder is the way to go.
