Wordpress Problem with Adding Plugins

Whenever I try to add a plugin, search for a plugin, etc. from Wordpress dashboard I keep getting this message-"An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request."
This is happening on 4 Wordpress blogs, and Hostgator doesn't seem to be able to find a solution. I have tried every suggestion from the various Wordpress forums and nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

    I had the same issue a few months back and TBH after searching high and low for a solution I ended up backing up my blog and reinstalling and it worked I'm assuming something was missing in the file structure... wasn't the best solution but it worked for me.. best of luck
