WordPress SEO by Yoast - XML Sitemap Question

I just upgraded to WordPress SEO by Yoast, and have a question about the XML Sitemaps it generates.

My old sitemap was "sitemap.xml" and I had the following entry in my "robots.txt" file:

sitemap: http://www.domain.com/sitemap.xml

Additionally, I had given this URL inside of Google Webmaster Tools.

With the Yoast plugin, it generates a file named "sitemap_index.xml" and if you look at it in a browser, you see that indeed it is just a list of other smaller sitemaps named "post-sitemap.xml", "page-sitemap.xml", etc...

For my "robots.txt" file, and for Google Webmaster Tools, do I simply update "sitemap.xml" to "sitemap_index.xml" or do I need to make entries for each sub-sitemap also ("post-sitemap.xml", "page-sitemap.xml", etc...)?

You'll just need to update it to "sitemap_index.xml" their bots will be able to find the rest from there.

If you want to study up on sitemaps you can look at sitemaps.org - Protocol. Google has an extension that you can also use but you would need to insert the xmlns extension Google has made in the file attributes line to use the extended attributes.

I am also using Yoast plugin for my client and it's generating sitemap_index.xml.
But I want to upload manually using FTP. So I unchecked XML Sitemap functionality in the plugin. When I am trying to upload, it's showing me 404 error page.
Please guide me how can I solve this problem.

Sorry if I am posing in the wrong thread and thank you in advance for helping me.
